What happens at the first assessment?
One of our team will arrange with you a convenient time to meet with you for usually 1 ½ hours. The assessment will involve discussing your current problems, gathering some background information about yourself and your situation in order for the therapist to identify the best options that may be offered to help you. Therefore it is important for the therapist to have as much information as possible and for you to think about what you would want to achieve. You may be asked to complete some questionnaires as part of the assessment.
At the end of the assessment we will look at what can be offered or advice will be given with regards to alternative options. As part of the assessment you will receive a written summary of the main points discussed and outcome.
What should I expect from a therapy session?
Our therapy sessions will usually last 1 hour however this may vary. Available times for therapy are currently Thursday or Friday during the day, evenings Monday to Friday after 5.30pm or at weekends. Sessions will usually be located at the Green Parrott in Swaffham, Norfolk or if requested, sessions can be held by arrangement at your home. Arrangements may also be made for enquries for therapy out of area. Other regions currently served include Ipswich, Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge and Kings Lynn. The therapist may make notes which are kept confidential. Therapy sessions are designed to address goals that are made at the assessment, this will involve setting an agenda at the start, discussing main points, looking at making small changes and setting tasks to try between sessions. In general, the more effort someone is able to put into their therapy, the more they will get out of it and see the benefits.
What if I cannot attend a session or do not want to continue my therapy?
We understand that life happens or circumstances may change, if you need to cancel a session please give at least two day’s notice. Late notice of less than 48hours may incur charges to cover costs. If you wish to no longer attend sessions, please discuss this with your therapist. If you do not think you are benefitting from the therapy or decide for whatever reason that you do not wish to continue, you have the right to discontinue at any time however we would ask that you notify your therapist as soon as possible.
Can I bring someone with me?
Therapy sessions are usually one-to-one however there may be time when it may be helpful to have a friend or relative there, for example at the assessment.
How much will it cost?
Please contact us by telephone or email to discuss whether our services may be of benefit to you and for costs for assessment and therapy sessions.
