Senior Clinical Psychologist

Dr Emma Thompson (currently on maternity leave)

Hi, my name is Emma and I am an accredited Clinical Psychologist with experience  of providing a range of evidence-based therapies.

I am passionate about helping others to overcome their difficulties, increase their resilience, and improve their quality of life.

Currently I work as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the NHS, specialising in children with complex mental health conditions.

I have experience working with individuals of all ages, and a range of mental health difficulties. This includes

  • depression
  • low self-esteem
  • social anxiety disorder
  • obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • health anxiety
  • generalised anxiety disorder
  • phobias, and
  • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

I also have an interest in working with children and adults with neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism spectrum conditions and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

During therapy, I draw from a combination of therapeutic approaches to offer an individualised approach.

I work in a collaborative and compassionate way, striving to establish a safe, non-judgemental and trusting therapeutic relationship.

This is an environment in which we can work together to understand the difficulties you are experiencing, and take steps towards overcoming these.

I am a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

I have also completed a research PhD in Social Cognition, investigating the brain regions that contribute to understanding others.

My academic background has highlighted to me the importance of ensuring that the therapy I provide adheres to the most up to date evidence-base and guidelines.

Please note – Emma is currently on maternity leave
